In this fun and informative class I will cover briefly, the history of soapmaking from prehistoric times to the present. Then, I will teach you how to make soap from basic ingredients, (which you can always purchase from Desert Bloom Herbs for your future soapmaking adventures).
You will begin to get a solid feel for the incredible diversity and variety of soaps which can be created using this ancient alchemical process. Soapmaking is really it's own art form!
During this class, we will make two types of all natural soaps, using different combinations of herbs, fixed oils , and essential oils. They will be suitable as great gifts!!
Handouts: You will recieve handouts , which outline the actual soapmaking process. These will include some simple soap recipies. Other handouts provided list the necessary raw ingredients, and materials (pots, spoons, etc.) which you will need to recreate his process later at home. Samples of each of the soaps will be given out in the next several days after the class.
Requisites: For this class, wear your grubbies and bring a notebook for recording special detail notes, as each class makes their own unique soap. Bring a lunch, as no eating establishments may be near the class site, and lunch time will be brief. There is some simple math involved, so you may wish to bring a calculator. (don't worry,... they're very simple calculations.)
Books: We have discovered some really great soapmaking books, such as "The Soapmakers Companion", which are available for purchase during the class. These books have lots of recipes, and charts which will help you determine the characteristics of the soap you want to create. They are valuable sources of "secret tips".
CLASS LIMIT - 6 HUMANS
Fee for the class is $ 45.00 to be paid in full by the time of class. Also, pre-registration is required, with a $20.00 deposit to hold your spot.
