Practical Medicine-making for the Home
In this interesting and fun 6 week class, we will explore many ways of using and preparing herbs for use as medicines by the "typical family", using common kitchen utensils and supplies which are easily obtainable through local stores.
Many different types of herbal preparations will be prepared and discussed, beginning with herbal teas, and ranging through alcohol/water extracts, glycerites, steeped oils, salves, poultices, honeyed herbs, oxymels, and foementations.
Handouts will be provided and students are also asked to bring a notebook in order to fill in details which will help them recreate these
processes at home.
By learning to become proficient in making and using natural plant-based medicines, you will literally save thousands of dollars per year in the process of keeping your family healthy.
After the medicine-making parts of this class have been presented, many local herbs will be discussed with regards to ethical wildcrafting, usage, preparation, and their specific effects.
